Steeped in history, the Connemara Lake Hotel was built by Hugh
Jack O'Flahertie in the early 19th century as a Bianconi station.
Over the next 100 years the hotel changed hands many times and
was extremely popular with English visitors, especially anglers,
who used to travel by rail into Oughterard.
Jim Egan purchased the property in the mid 1940s and named
it "The Lake Hotel". The McDonalds made some renovations
to the property including the addition of en-suite rooms (originally
there was only one bathroom to serve all the guests!) The next
owners were Finnerty and Burke who sold the Hotel to its current
owner, Olivier Jasko.
